Elizabeth Alden Pabodie’s Pilgrim parents John Alden and Priscilla Mullins received national recognition in “The Courtship of Miles Standish”, an 1858 poem by Longfellow. Elizabeth and her husband William Pabodie settled in Little Compton when she was in her late 50s with a number of their adult children. When she died at age 93, Elizabeth was honored with an obituary that commented on her large number of descendants. Her monument in the Old Burying Ground on the Commons, installed by Sarah Soule Wilbour in 1882, quickly became one of the most visited sites in Little Compton.
